MATTHIAS THE JUST

Synopsis

King Matthias is worn out by his new golddigger wife Beatrix’s grandiose whims and the responsibilities of power, and he flees the palace in disguise, playing various characters and escaping into the common people – which he likes more and more, while a conspiracy is hatched against him behind his back.

The best-known Hungarian king, Matthias ‘the Just’, led one of the largest empires in Europe during the Renaissance. His story is told – in a slightly different way – with a source of comedy that derives from the fragility and caricature of strong male and female roles while keeping a wry eye on the power and political games.

The Great meets The Young Pope.
