Fueled by a sense of justice, Erika Renner did not know the means to successfully stand up for herself. However, a brutal attack forces her to put on the gloves in the face of systemic oppression – paving the way for millions of abused women in our country.
Based on the true story of Erika Renner, adapted by Vera Mérő’s documentary novel, Lye.
In 2013, Erika Renner was attacked in her home by a masked man who drugged her and poured lye on her genitals, ruining Erika’s life. Suspicions quickly shifted to Erika’s former lover, an obstetrician-gynecologist doctor with a large family, who was morbidly attracted to her. In the aftermath of the attack, fear and dark emotions corrode the lives of those involved in the tragedy like lye through Erika’s body.
How did the attacker get to the point where he crossed a line and carried out such a horrific act? Can a victim recover from such a situation and stand up for herself in a victim-blaming justice system? These are the questions we seek answers to in the drama series LYE.
